 | The Upper School Program is a co-educational, college preparatory program for grades nine through twelve. It is the mission of the School to provide a high quality, liberal arts education, while enabling students with special talents and interests to excel within their areas of specialty. The objective of the program is to develop life-long, collaborative learners and independent thinkers. To this end, small class sizes, an active hands-on program, outstanding faculty, visible administration, and an involved parent group provide the framework.
All students must successfully complete a minimum of 24 credits and pass all segments of the Ohio Graduation Test. Three college preparatory tracks are available to students including: traditional college preparatory, science/math, and fine arts/performing arts. The fine arts/performing art students, and math/science students must complete 26 credits with a focus on their given specialty. The core of the academic program consists of courses in English, social studies, mathematics, foreign language (Latin, French, Spanish, and Chinese), technology, physical education, and the arts. A wide variety of electives, independent studies, and Advanced Placement courses round out the students' coursework. Historically, Village Academy has had 100% college placement and significantly higher test scores than the Ohio and national averages on both the SAT and ACT. The eighteen students in the class of 2009 received over three million dollars in scholarship offers. |
