Village Academy senior, Shambavi Sadayappan, won a First Place Award from the U.S. Air Force in the category of Medicine and Health at the 2010 Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in San Jose, California. Intel ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) is the world's largest international pre-college science competition, attended by more than 1,500 high school students from over 50 countries.
In March, Bavi competed in her first Intel ISEF, and was named a finalist. She won an all-expense paid trip to San Jose, CA, where she competed in the Medicine and Health category. Her project, on the effectiveness of the flu vaccine: a computational study, investigated whether the addition of another influenza B strain to the influenza vaccine would increase its effectiveness. The award is worth $3,000.
